In my last blog I talked about some habits that will help you to start snacking in a healthier manner. As well, I provided some healthy snack options. If you are like me, you like lots of variety! With that in mind, here are some other ideas to keep you fueled, energized and satisfied.
Warm up with a cinnamon-y apple treat. Simply core and peel an apple, stuff it with a mixture of walnuts, raisins and real maple syrup. Sprinkle cinnamon on top and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 25 minutes or until the apple is soft. For a bit of decadence, enjoy it with a bit of real whipped cream (sweetened with stevia and a few drops of almond extract).
A vanilla almond date smoothie is simple and oh-so-satisfying. In a blender mix together ½ cup of Greek yogurt, ½ cup almond milk, ½ cup pitted dates, ½ tsp pure vanilla extract, stevia to taste and some ice. For a different taste substitute low fat coconut milk for the almond milk.
Top whole grain crackers with hummus, cucumber slices and a bit of sea salt. Or try a tapenade; mix together equal amounts of chopped black olives and chopped mushrooms with a bit of extra-virgin olive oil.
Another amazing treat is to spread almond butter on half of an sprouted grain tortilla. Top with sliced avocado, thin slices of red onion and a sprinkling of golden raisins. This is one you may find yourself making over and over again.
Most importantly, savor your snacks and be present while eating them. It will make your snacking all the more satisfying.
