It’s mid-afternoon and your energy is waning. Visions of caffeinated drinks and sugary treats begin to dance in your head. Wait! Before you head out for that mega mocha iced latte, try a few of these ideas.
2) Oxygenate! Take just two or three minutes to breathe deeply. This will instantly soothe your nervous system, while bringing much needed oxygen to your body.
3) Go outside. If the weather is nice, step out, breathe some fresh air and let the sun’s natural energy and light give you a boost. Better yet, connect with some nature by touching a tree or spending a bit of time meditating on a flower, a patch of grass or an interesting rock.
4) Stretch. Go for it! Get in a nice big stretch and move about. Envision light and energy flowing into your body and enlivening your cells.
5) Have a snack that won’t cause you to crash later. Instead of chocolate and caffeine, think protein and good-for-you carbs. Have a handful of nuts and an apple, almond butter on whole grain crackers, or a protein and fruit smoothie.
All of these ideas are simple, and done over and over again will eventually break you of your current energizing habits. A quick jolt and a crash is not as kind and sustaining as a steady energizing choice like those described above.
