Digestive Enzymes

In past blogs I have discussed the importance of a good strong digestive system; the healthier your digestion, the healthier are you. I have also talked extensively about the importance of populating your gut with good-for-you bacteria via probiotics.  Fruits and vegetables, and all their wonderful enzymes, also play an important role in achieving awesome digestion.

But here’s the real deal: our fruits and veggies are not what they used to be. Toxins, chemicals and the like have found their way into our produce and in turn our soil; all of this adds to the depletion of nutrients and enzymes in the food we eat.

The other issue is the practice of utilizing land for only one type of crop. Many farmers just grow apples, or just grow corn, for example. Take a look at Mother Nature. Do you see sections of only one type of tree, one type of flower or one type of anything? No. You see diversity. Many different types of plants working together to create a vibrant and healthy eco-system.

It is for this reason that I recommend getting a bit of extra digestive help with digestive enzymes. Taken with each meal, digestive enzymes will give you what you need to break down and take up where our available produce is no longer able to do.

At my office we suggest using VegeZyme from Daily Manufacturing . I have tried numerous brands and am very impressed with this particular brand. My own family takes them as do my patients. If you are interested, call us to order some today at 1-800-493-8982.

Also, as we age we naturally start to produce fewer digestive enzymes. A lack of these enzymes can lead to health issues and you may suffer from bloating, flatulence, constipation and heartburn as well as a host of other digestive issues. A great article on the benefits of taking a digestive enzyme can be read at http://www.puristat.com/bloating/digestive-enzymes.aspx.
